PREPARING FOR THE BIG DAY!
Are you getting married or is someone close to you getting married? Ritualizing the commitment of two people who have promised to stay with one another for life is usually a very happy event.
Before this ‘dream’ wedding, though, there are and so many aspects to prepare including bridal clothes, bridal cake, the site for the wedding itself and the celebration afterwards as well as arranging for the celebrant.
Guests love to celebrate with you after the event and that means organizing all the food and drink.
Guests really like to be pampered and talk about the event for days afterwards and the bride and groom love to have them happy as well. It can take months and sometimes years to book the sites you want for the ceremony and for the celebration – and it is worth the effort initially so that your day is extremely memorable and joyful.
Let’s get back to the clothes. Often when wedding is mentioned people’s attention goes to what the bride will wear. Increasingly, though, men are organising what they will wear along with the groomsmen. Will the groom wear a tux? What colour suit and tie will he wear?
The bride sets out on her journey to decide what she really loves in a bridal gown and the bridesmaids dresses need to be decided on months ahead as well – colours, designs, and sizes!
Who will do the makeup and hair dos? Who will drive the cars and/or what kind of transport will be used? I heard this week of someone who is travelling by boat to her wedding which is being held on the water front.
Then there is the cake and the flowers and the invitations and who is going to pay for it all.
Couples these days also often prepare their own wedding vows as well as choose their own pice of prose or poetry to be read during the ceremony. They also choose singers or music for the ceremony and for the celebration. Speakers at the celebration are informed of what is required of them and when they will be speaking.
Every great event also prepares for the unexpected in weather or other delays e.g. traffic or the need for touch-ups etc.
The most important thing is that the couple are celebrated and that they create a day to remember as all the people who care about them also promise to support them in their married life.
